transitions101It's been a while since I've done one of these! The members talk about their anniversary tour with a particular emphasis on vegetables...

N: That’s right. We performed Arashi singles featured in our solo works.
J: We hardly did any B-sides at all. We performed album songs such as “Allergy”, “Dangan Liner”, “Kokoro Chirari”, “Carnival Night part 2” and stuff though.
MC: You guys really did lots of stuff for the fans, didn’t you?
S: During “Allergy”, right? (laughs)
A: We brought out the vegetables!
J: That was an embarrassing move, wasn’t it? (laughs)
MC: Did you guys get psyched during the preparatory meetings, saying, “Yeah! Let’s do Allergy!”
S: That’s right. (laughs)
N: Hahaha! We did! I do remember us going, “Let’s do it!” (laughs)
A: Um hmm. We also talked about whether the audience would know such an old song. We were quite passionate about “Allergy”. (laughs)
S: That discussion pretty much came up at every turn. It’s like a running joke; “You know for the song, ‘Allergy’…”
N: It was like, “Oh, we had that too.”
A: We went, “And we were dancing while holding on to vegetables, right?” (laughs)
S: Yeah. (laughs) We didn’t have any old footage of Allergy, right?
J: No, we didn’t. Furthermore, this… isn’t a song about vegetable allergies.
Everyone: [bursts out laughing]
MC: So that footage doesn’t exist anymore?
J: We play the footage during the concert, but it’s not available for sale.
S: It’s not for sale.
N: It’s a reference footage, but we didn’t store it to share with everyone else.
S: But you know, the audience reaction (back then) was really flat, we were shocked, weren’t we! We were like, “Hang on… are we the only people (getting excited over this)?”
J: To have (performed) a song which felt so long…
Everyone: [bursts into laughter]
N: Man… We were so psyched about the song. Even during rehearsals and stuff.
S: Yeah! We were really excited.
A: I think the performers have more fun, right? It’s really fun! But it didn’t resonate with the audience…
S: It didn’t resonate, neither did it connect…
Everyone: [bursts into laughter]
N: Right? That’s why we haven’t done it since.
A: I think it was better for us to not have performed it. (laughs)
O: Only Sho-chan didn’t have a vegetable, right?
S: Eh! Why’s that?
MC: That’s right. Sakurai-san’s vegetable didn’t arrive by the first day.
O: Yeah… That’s why (Sho) didn’t have a vegetable.
S: Eh? Was that in Kokuritsu?
O: Yup. It’s like, there was one guy who was holding an “air” vegetable. (laughs)
A: Hahaha! Did that happen?
N: It’s like, we had the staff throw vegetables at us.
S: Aah! And my vegetable didn’t come to me. Probably…
MC: That’s right. You talked about it during the MC.
S: Ahh, I see. So a humiliation much greater than the shame of dancing with a vegetable awaited me…
Everyone: [bursts into laughter]
S: 7 years have passed since then. At last, I’ve begun dancing without a vegetable.
A: If you didn’t have a vegetable… you know?
N: In the first place, what sort of allergy was it?
O: Hahaha! Hahahahaha! (keeps on laughing)
J: To have danced that without a vegetable… What fortitude!
S: To think that 70,000 audience members gathered here for this… Hahaha!
MC: It was a humiliation that surpassed past humiliations. (laughs)
S: Even for the audience, it’s rather (weird) to be performing with vegetables in a venue the size of Kokuritsu. We had no idea what’s going on.
N: To have performed something in Kokuritsu which the people back then in Yokohama Arena didn’t understand… I have no idea what’s going on. (laughs)
Everyone: [bursts into laughter]
S: But we copied the choreography back then perfectly.
N: That’s right! So we got excited for some reason, while performing.
S: *We* got excited, that is!
O: (laughing all this while) Surprisingly, we danced quite a bit.
Everyone: [bursts into laughter]

J: It’s worth watching the DVD just for this footage, isn’t it? The best thing about this “5x10” also had us performing our original singles for our solos and such.
