KOKURITSU PHOTO BOOK CROSS TALK - 2009: 5X10 ANNIVERSARY TOUR (3/4)
This was an old project which I started back in 2014 when the Kokuritsu Photo Book was first published. This post picks up on the Arashi cross-talk discussing the 5x10 Anniversary concert, heavily featuring the see-through outfits.

MC: The 10 years’ worth of memories which you showed us in “Ashita no Kioku (lit: Tomorrow’s Memories) were moving.
Sho: Aah, you mean that thing!
Jun: We showed photos from when we were little. We reminisced quite a bit. Then we came out in those see-through outfits. (The members performed A.RA.SHI in their debut see-through outfits.) We thought the fans would laugh at us, but there were people crying in the audience…
MC: What, at the part with see-through outfits?
Jun: Yeah, my classmate saw us and cried. [T/N: On hindsight, Jun was probably referring to Nakamura Shichinosuke. In a 2018 episode of A-Studio, it was revealed that Shichinosuke wept openly when Arashi appeared on stage in their vinyl suits.]

Sho: (starts chuckling) Haha, hahaha!
Aiba: You mean that part was moving…?
MC: (He) was moved because you guys were so brilliant?
Jun: That’s right. “You’ve become so respectable…” and when he saw the see-through outfits, he cried.
Everyone: (bursts out laughing)
Sho: Hahaha… Oh man, that’s hilarious! (laughs)
Nino: Surprisingly there are a few of these people out there.
Aiba: The people who know us from “back then” might feel this way.
Sho: That’s right. The Music Station staff would know.
Ohno: Yeah, they were really hyped up.
Sho: On the Music Station SP, right? When we finished performing in our see-through outfits at the EX THEATER, the staff came back and the sound guy from back then was like, “Oh man, that was so moving!”
Jun: We were hoping that people would have a good laugh though…
Sho: That’s true! (laughs) Occasionally you have people who are moved by this, you know.
Everyone: (bursts out laughing)
Nino: That’s why we don’t get the reaction that we expect when we perform “A.RA.SHI”. Back then, we thought we were cool when performing it!
Sho: When we debuted, we thought we were cool, you know?
Nino: Now that we thought people would laugh at the song, they get moved by it instead.
Ohno: Ahaha!
Nino: I wonder what it is…
Sho: We can’t keep up at all!
MC: You said, “We levelled up and came back!” (That line was delivered by Nino before the members launched into the A.RA.SHI performance.)
Nino: Yeah. We really levelled up and came back though…
Sho: Hahaha! We appeared rather naturally in those see-through outfits for A.RA.SHI, did we?
Jun: That’s right. After the 10th anniversary montage finished, we launched into the medley.
MC: You hyped up the crowd in the see-through outfits for quite some time, didn’t you?
Nino: There were people who left the stage halfway, and people who stayed behind on stage…
Jun: During “SUNRISE Nippon” and “Kimi No Tame Ni Boku Ga Iru”.
Nino: It was during the 10 year medley, yes?
Jun: That’s right, we had a 10 year medley; Sho-kun, Leader and I stayed on stage for “SUNRISE Nippon”, the other 2 members went to change for “Kimi No Tame Ni Boku Ga Iru”.
Nino: That’s right.
Aiba: Oh yes, we were the first to go backstage to change.
Sho: Oh, I see. That’s right.
Jun: We said stuff like, “Don’t look at us!” “It’s embarrassing, don’t look!” (laughs)
Nino: Because we went off the stage right away.
Aiba: That’s right. We were thinking, “Yay! We get to leave the stage!” (laughs)
Nino: It was scary, we left really quickly. (laughs)
Sho: Fuha, hahaha!
Ohno: And Aiba-chan was really busy during this tour.
Aiba: Aah… that’s right!
Jun: You were filming “My Girl”.
Aiba: True. I wasn’t really able to attend the rehearsals.
Ohno: You were panicking during rehearsals and stuff.
Aiba: When I went for the venue rehearsals, I didn’t know a thing.
Nino: Your dancing during “Boku Boku” was really funny. (laughs)
Jun: That’s right, during “Boku Ga Boku No Subete”.
Ohno: Aiba-chan’s dancing then was amazing, wasn’t it? (laughs)
Jun: Hmm? Isn’t it in the DVD? Ooh, he only did it on the first day?
Nino: Yeah. That dance was hilarious.
Everyone: (bursts out laughing)
Ohno: That’s right, even though we’re not supposed to laugh about it.
Nino: That’s true. (laughs)
Ohno: It was too funny, it can’t be recorded. (laughs)
Aiba: I couldn’t dance the steps and I didn’t know where I was supposed to stand… (wry smile)
Jun: It’s like you were just… watching us. (laughs)
Aiba: Yeah. That’s why I think I did pretty well in the end! When you see the DVD, I could dance the steps! (laughs)
Nino: You looked like you were having a lot of fun.
Ohno: It was amazing.
Aiba: My mental strength was amazing, if I had to say so myself!
Sho: Right? (laughs) When you look at the DVD, you don’t get the feeling that he’s (pushing himself) at all.
