[This is Arashi concert pamphlet 2021] Round-table excerpts
Hi everyone! It's been a looong while, hasn't it? I missed reading about our famous 5 and asked
Someone suggested that I translate the "This is Arashi" pamphlet round-table, so here it is! I'm sorry that I only translated the excerpts as I don't have the stamina to plough through full translations these days.

About holding Arafes 2020 at Kokuritsu
Jun: Man... it was truly an extravagant experience. Although it ended up as a livestream concert... And we were given the opportunity to build such a huge set for the livestream alone. We were also allowed to use the National Stadium for numerous days. Once again, I was so thankful for that experience.
Aiba: It does make you feel that way. For me, I was shocked at how there were penlights placed at each and every seat. The staff said they took 5 days to set it up.
Nino: That’s right, they said they took 5 days.
Jun: There’s around 70,000 seats, you know? It’s amazing, we’re so thankful.
When we watched the concert, it felt like Arashi-san did many things that they’d usually do. We could really tell that you guys looked at each and every audience member at the edges of the arena, to the very top of the stadium.
Jun: It’s only natural that we’d imagine the audience members there while we’re performing. To have the penlights placed in every seat made us imagine that all the fans had come, and those who were watching in front of their screens were there at the stadium.
Aiba: Um hmm. As you’d expect, you could say that it feels like a different concert… Although it’s different from the shows that we’ve done up till now, we went into it hoping that it could be the best concert we could put up in the current situation and have everyone enjoy themselves.
Ohno-san forgot to fish for the fans, it’s during moments like these where you really feel the power of the audience.
Ohno: That’s right! That’s why, unless there are uchiwas which say, “Catch me”, I wouldn’t go fishing for the audience myself. (laughs)
Other 4: Well, of course. (laughs)
Aiba: I definitely would want Leader to catch me.
Ohno: That’s right, I didn’t notice until Aiba-chan brought it up.
Aiba: Right? (laughs) I said to him, “Did you catch anyone today?”
Ohno: Um hmm. That’s why I’m glad that he said it during the concert. Once again I thought, I’d do it because the fans are there. During the intervals without any choreographed moves, we’d normally be waving (at the audience) or doing various stuff, right? Conversely, there isn’t time for that (during Arafes 2020), so I have no idea what to do during the (intervals). (laughs)
Other 4: I get what you mean!
Nino: Um hmm. It is totally different. The point where I most acutely felt the audience’s absence was when I felt totally exhausted. (laughs) As you’d expect, the support from everyone was amazing, I really felt it.
Jun: I felt that. Certainly, we don’t record for such long durations for music shows and stuff.
By the way, Ohno-san will choreograph the performance for the album track “Itsuka Byoshin No Au Koro”, right?
Jun: (happily) He will choreograph the performance for us!
Ohno: I will! However, I haven’t choreographed a single step. (wry smile) That’s still… Matsumoto-san hasn’t decided on the production for that segment. I guess it depends on his decision!
Everyone: (bursts out laughing)
Jun: This is tough… It’s really difficult.
Ohno: That’s right, he’s deliberating over it. That’s why I haven’t thought about (the choreography). It starts after this!
The “Kanpai Song” encore at the end of Arafes Part 2 was typical of Arashi’s style and totally awesome (laughs). How do you think you’ll wrap up the New Year’s Eve concert?
Jun: Well… we definitely wouldn’t end the new year’s eve concert on that note! (laughs) I don’t think we’ll end the concert with, “Kanpai~! See you!”
Well, I do think that is very much like Arashi. (laughs)
Ohno: Well, yes. (laughs) But right now… I can’t imagine it at all. It’s confirmed that we wouldn’t be able to admit audience members. Amidst all that, I wonder how we’ll reach the audience? That’s all we’re thinking about, I feel. On the day of the concert, too. “I wonder how they felt about that?” It feels a little scary… Not knowing the audience reactions.
Sho: That’s true.
I see. You would want to see their reactions.
Jun: Maybe it’s better not to see their reactions. What if everyone’s crying in front of us or something?
Ohno: Oh yeah…
Sho: You wouldn’t go, “Kanpai! Bye bye!” right there.
Jun: It’s pretty difficult. My memory of a group’s departure would be members placing their microphones on the stage, or in the case of Hikaru GENJI (SUPER 5); when they graduated and gave their last performance, they took off their roller skates and left them on the stage.
Aiba: Aah, that’s right.
Ohno: I see.
Sho: (senses something) Eeh… see-through? We’ll leave our see-through outfits behind??
Jun: Eh… and fold them up? (laughs)
Aiba: Hahaha! We’ll fold them up and leave it on the stage?
Sho: At the end, the vinyl costumes will be discoloured. “Aah, so there’s color on it now. It has become translucent, huh. Even though it was see-through back then…”
Nino: Saying stuff like, “It’s amazing how it’s been 20 years…”
Everyone: (bursts out laughing)
Jun: In a way, that’s pretty legendary. (gets into a seiza position and pretends to fold the costume.)
Aiba: Are we sitting in a seiza position? And say, “Thank you very much”?
Sho: (cracking up) That’d be awesome though. That’d be so awesome… and it’d probably become a legend. I can’t tell whether it’d be a legend in a good way or a bad way though! (laughs)
Everyone: (bursts out laughing)
Jun: That’s the kind of stuff that we’d leave in archives. (laughs) Leaving our microphones, leaving our roller skates… and folding our clothes.
Aiba: We’re just acting as stylists!
Everyone: (bursts out laughing)
Sho: That’s AWESOME. (laughs)
Ohno: Legendary. (laughs)
Jun: Well, that’s why it’s exactly like what everyone says, “We can’t even imagine it ourselves.” Wouldn’t it exceed our expectations, you think?
I’m looking forward to the Arashi members exceeding our expectations! Well, this will be the last pamphlet cross-talk before the hiatus. May we have Ohno-san to wrap up this session as usual?
Aiba: That’s right, let’s have him close the session for us.
Ohno: (blankly) Eh… wrap up?
Sho: You know, the way you always wrap up our sessions!
Nino: That thing you always do!
Jun: As you’d expect, the concert is a livestream this time, right? We might experience many hiccups.
Ohno: (remembers) Aah, okay! Well, as you’d expect, we should get through this without any injuries, yes? It’s our last concert before our hiatus, you see. There’s nothing we can do even if we hurt ourselves. In the remaining 2 months, let’s take good care of our bodies.
Other 4: Yes, sir!
Ohno: Let’s finish this concert in our best condition. After that, well… it doesn’t really matter if you catch a cold!
Everyone: (bursts out laughing)
Jun: It’s okay (to catch a cold) in January, right?
Ohno: It’s okay to do that in January!
Sho: So we can catch a cold in January, yes?
Ohno: That’s not good… but you’re allowed to!
Everyone: (bursts out laughing)
Nino: Firstly, until the new year’s eve concert!
Aiba: Until then, yes! Let’s all give our best!!
Ohno: That’s right! (emphatically) Everyone, let’s do our best!!
