Here's a well researched and relaxed interview with Michieda Shunsuke by Mini magazine! It felt like Micchi was chatting with a fellow NaniFam, and the interviewer clearly knew their interview subject.
Congratulations on your dream debut tour featuring Naniwa Danshi’s first album! Please share with us what the group’s atmosphere is like as you’re preparing for the tour.
We’re getting more individual work assignments, so I’m happy when I get to see the members and it motivates me. I’m also really looking forward to the tour rehearsals!
How long does it take to complete preparations for the tour?
We had more time compared to last year, about 3 to 4 weeks, I guess? We only had 2 weeks to prepare for last year’s tour…!
Can you imagine what you’ll be like on the first show?
I guess I’ll be thrilled? Even though we get to hold concerts every year, I always forget how I feel on the first day. You know when you forget how cold winter can be each year? I feel the same (with concerts). Every time I would think, “Concerts can be so fun!?” (laughs)
Naniwa Tube* is on a roll with 1 million subscribers! Which episode left an impression on you?
The episode where we got to collaborate with HIKAKIN-san. I was shocked! I couldn’t believe that we got to visit his house. It’s a collaboration that we got to do because we set up a YouTube channel, so I’m very thankful for that. Hurray for YouTube!

Where would you like to go next?
I’ll get to decide on our video plan if I win another title, so when that happens, I want to go to Disneyland! I want to film on location! Although that may draw a crowd…

What should we do? Maybe reserve it exclusively for your YouTube video?

If people don’t call out our name, we would be safe. If they (approach us) and say, “Erm…” and we run away, that’s also okay. If they say, “Are you Michieda-kun?” then I’m out. The last remaining member wins. We’ll set a time limit too. During that period, we can roam about freely.
Which video would you recommend for the people who haven’t watched Naniwa Tube?
I think any video would be interesting, but if I had to pick one video… I can’t! You could start off by watching our music videos and then watch our variety episodes, in doing so you’ll see the gap (between our sparkly and silly side), so please watch them both!
By the way, during the Emo trip, when Nishihata-kun said that he would start calling the three of you as “Micchi, Kento and Kyohei” you seemed the most shocked. Did you really want him to call you Micchi?
Ahahahaha!! I was simply shocked. He could have also called me Michieda. But when I was doing (the stage play) “Romeo and Juliet” last year, Daigo-kun texted me to say, “Are you feeling okay?” I texted back, “I’m okay, but R&J is really tough, it’s crazy.” Then he replied, “If it’s Micchi, things will be okay.” He called me “Micchi” then. I ignored it though. (laughs)
T/N: As Daigo is Micchi, Kento and Kohei’s senpai, he used to address them by their surnames, even after Naniwa Danshi was formed in 2018. But with addressing them by their nicknames or first names, it sends the message that he sees them as peers and fellow members.
Even though you and Takahashi-kun joined Johnny’s at the same time, he’s older, right? Michieda-kun calls him Kyohei, but Nagao-kun calls him Takahashi-kun. Was it like that from the start?
I’ve always called him Kyohei from the start, but Nagao didn’t know what to call him, so he always said “Takahashi-kun”.
By the way, has Michieda-kun addressed (Nagao) as Kento?
No. It’s not like we’re on bad terms or anything! It’s just awkward for me. (laughs)
I think it’s awesome that as the dreamboat of Naniwa Danshi, you go all out when making funny faces.
Of course I do! If I’m gonna do it, I won’t hold anything back.
During the recent Instagram Live where you celebrated Naniwa Danshi’s 6-month anniversary, were you slightly embarrassed after making that funny face?
I didn’t really go all out on that one. I could have done better! (laughs)
If you could hold an Instagram Live with another Naniwa Danshi member, who would it be?
Currently there are 3 members who haven’t done the Instagram Live, so maybe the 3 of us can do it together? I absolutely refuse to do it on my own!

You fulfilled your dream of acting in “The Files of Young Kindaichi” after you joined Johnny’s! Did you receive any advice or comments from your idol, Yamada Ryosuke-kun?
He cheered me on and said to me, “I watched the first episode and it was scary, which is true to the style of Kindaichi. Do your best!”
Ohashi-kun went ahead and visited Yamada-kun’s house. Michieda-kun, did you manage to go after that?
I haven’t managed to. Yamada-kun is also very busy, and I can’t possibly… it’s okay!
The other members have been involved in acting projects, were you able to watch their shows?
I’m currently shooting a drama so it’s hard to find the time to watch their shows. But the members have watched Kindaichi, so I’m grateful for that. After the drama’s filming has wrapped up, I intend to binge watch “Ore No Kawaii Wa Mousugu Shouhi Kigen”.
T/N: The drama stars Yamada Ryosuke and Ohashi Kazuya. Somehow I feel that Yamada is a bigger incentive for Micchi to watch the drama.
You welcome your 20th birthday on 25th July. Is there anything else that you’d like to do before you turn 20?
Nothing! My current goal is to finish filming “Kindaichi” without any regrets!
I think you’ve lived a life where people are calling you cute since you’ve been born…
Really~?
I’m sure of it. (laughs)

Honestly, does it make you happy when people call you cute?
I think nothing of it when I hear it from the members. (laughs) Ohashi-kun calls me cute the most often. Jo-kun would only call me cute when he really thinks so, but Ohashi-kun seems to value quantity over quality, which I don’t really like. (laughs) When I hear it from the fans or during magazine shoots like this, it makes me happy.
T/N: Micchi clearly has trust issues when it comes to Ohashi’s compliments, LOL
By the way, do you resemble your father? Or your mother?
I wonder who…? (checks his own photo) I’m not quite sure of it myself, but I think I look like the both of them.
Is there any part of you that makes you think, “I am cute in that aspect”?
Eh… What do you think? (asks his manager)

Why do you think so many people find Naniwa Danshi cute?

Daigo-kun aims (to be cute) sometimes, and Jo-kun occasionally tries to give off a cute vibe, but he’s waiting for the others to retort that he isn’t cute. The ones who seriously aim (to be cute) are Ryuche and Ohashi-kun. Ohashi-kun is totally strategizing on how to be cunningly cute. Ryuche is calculative about it too, but he is actually cute so it’s all fine. (laughs) I think Kyohei is the cool representative in a group that’s cute. Nagao is cool amidst his cuteness!
When do you find girls to be cute?
When their faces crinkle up in laughter.

Are you the type who can tell a girl if you think that she’s cute?
I think it’s impossible… I’m bad with words. I want to convey it smoothly, but I can’t!
Even though you had so much practice in your variety shows, you still find it impossible?
No way! I was doing all that with guys! (laughs)

He looks cool, so just as you think that he’s cold and unapproachable, he’s such a goofball when he talks. I think it’s cute that the visual information and verbal information don’t line up.
Nagao:
He’s so loud, but he has the cuteness of the youngest child. He also messes with Jo-kun.

He’s like a puppy. I think you’ll get it when you watch the “Making Of” for Sachiare. When he couldn’t get the choreography for the song, he suddenly started to act like a spoiled child and said to Kyohei, “Oh no~” (laughs)
