Kokuritsu Photo Book Crosstalk - 2008, ARASHI AROUND ASIA (2/3)
Okay, 4 pages down, 48 to go... Here's part 2 of the Kokuritsu Photo Book Crosstalk.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
O: We’re performing outdoors, and I could see the audience members clearly…
S: Ah, I see.
A: It’s true for an outdoor venue.
N: It’s bright and all, too.
J: As for me, it was a panoramic photo of our first Kokuritsu “Love So Sweet” performance taken by an official cameraman. I still have that photo as my desktop wallpaper today. It’s a memory, after all. Sho-kun said so too.
S: As for me, my laptop wallpaper was a photo of the other 4 members singing on a lifter before my solo, taken during a rehearsal. I wasn’t in the photo!
N: Hahaha! That’s because Sho-san took the photo.
S: Arashi, from my point of view!
Everyone: [bursts out laughing]
S: The members were singing “Sirius”.
N: When we were being elevated on the donut, right? [T/N: that’s what the center stage is called.]
S: That’s right, that’s right.
J: 2008 was also the year where we were given the privilege of holding a Dome tour. To think that we had the honor of performing at the Kokuritsu stadium in the same year too. The Kokuritsu stadium was our first stop in our Asia Tour, right?
S: Yeah, we went for our Asia Tour after the Kokuritsu concert. That’s right, that’s right… Before I went to Beijing (as a news caster for the Olympics), I was desperately drafting the lyrics for Re(mark)able, staying up till the wee hours of the morning… It’s all coming back to me now. Thinking about how I was dying to meet the deadline still gives me the chills.
J: That’s because you were terribly busy. We were the main personalities of 24 Hour TV, and there was the Olympics too… Even though we weren’t involved in the Olympics. (laughs)
S: Hahaha! True. I felt as if I had appeared in the Olympics, but you’re right.
J: We were merely spectators.
Everyone: [bursts out laughing]
MC: What was the reason for choosing “Love So Sweet” to be the first song at your first Kokuritsu concert?
J: We originally had two options: “Kansha Kangeki Ame Arashi” (Gratitude, Inspiration, Rain and Storm) and “Love So Sweet”. We simply wanted to convey our gratitude. However, and this is going to sound really strange, I thought, “We could keep ‘Kansha’ for next year.” Not for a second Kokuritsu concert, but for our 10th year anniversary. I wanted to perform in Kokuritsu with as many new songs as possible, and just sing songs which were reminiscent of Arashi. So we finally settled on “Love So Sweet”.
MC: That was the year where Aiba-san tore a hole in his pants and Ninomiya-san hit his head while doing a backflip… One which was filled with accidents and happenings.
Everyone: Oh yeah!

A: It did happen. (laughs)
S: Did it happen in 2008?
A: My pants ripped apart at the butt. The next day, I was the only member who had something like a skirt wrapped around me.
[T/N: More like a chastity shield]
S: It’s THE Emergency Treatment!
A: That’s right. That outfit was so embarrassing.
N: You somehow had another piece of clothing attached to you?
A: Yeah I did. (laughs)
J: Hahaha! In the DVD footage, the skirt was wrapped around you, right? (laughs) But it’s pretty amazing. You ripped your costume on the first day and they patched it for you on the second.
The other 4 members: That’s true.
MC: You guys were soaking wet from the water fountains. (laughs)
J: Yeah we were soaked, and to top it off, we wanted to dive into the water so we readied a pool (during the encore). On the first day Aiba-kun took the plunge, and on day 2, it was Leader.
N: It was those two guys then, yes? Man, it must have been cold.
O: It was cold!

MC: Those swimming trunks belonged to Matsumoto-san, right?
N: You’re right! Yes, they did.
J: Yup. (laughs) When I was watching the DVD footage with the pool, I kept thinking to myself, “Where have I placed it?”
MC: (laughs) It can’t be found?
J: Yeah, I lost it. (laughs)
S: That… what’s that about? So (Aiba and Ohno) each borrowed Matsujun’s swimming trunks, washed it and returned it?
A&O: [tries their best to recall] …
J: On the first day, the costume stylist washed it for me.
S: I see.
J: For day 2, I brought home the soaking wet trunks which Leader used…
Everyone: [bursts out laughing]
S: Oh, so is this a Comicomi plan until you wash it?
T/N: A Comicomi plan is a mobile phone plan rolled out by KDDI which includes unlimited texting and data usage. Interpret it whatever way you wish.
J: That’s right, that’s right. (laughs)
S: Aaaah, what a steal!
N: That plan is value for money!
A: We didn’t have to bring anything at all, it’s a great deal!
Everyone: [bursts out laughing]
J: After our concert, I was doing the laundry by myself at home. (laughs)
Translator’s comment: Awww, Jun.
O: I wonder why we used Matsujun’s trunks? Was it because we didn’t own any?
S: Wasn’t that the case?
J: I brought the trunks for the rehearsals… Of course, there was the discussion about what we would do with the trunks. I said, “I had swimming trunks at home, so I just brought them in any case!”
MC: So even though you had a segment where you would dive into a pool, no one prepared any swimming trunks?
J: It was because only one person needed to dive into the pool. (T/N: And this was decided by janken, as was all important Arashi life decisions.) As a result, the rules was pretty lax. We decided that someone would dive into the pool during the encore, but how would he go about it? We didn’t finalize the nitty gritty details. We just said, “Okay, whoever loses at janken will dive in.” And we had a pair of swimming trunks, so things will work out, right?
N: We just had to win at janken. If we brought our own trunks, we would have lost at that point. (laughs)
S: We weren’t thinking of losing!
J: I didn’t lose at janken though. I just washed it without using it…
Everyone: [bursts out laughing]
S: You’re right! You didn’t use it at all.
MC: And those swimming trunks were a new purchase, right?
J: That’s right!
A: Ah! So I was the first person to put them on!?
J: Yeah! I bought those swimming trunks when I went overseas, and left it at home. I couldn’t exactly let the members wear trunks that I had worn before. So it’s fine. (laughs)
N: And without you putting them out, those trunks disappeared somewhere. (laughs)
