[Info: Gossip] Continual reprints of Nino magazines, but the best selling ones feature Ohno

I don't normally translate tabloid articles, but this was really interesting. Just take it with a pinch of salt, yes?

ohno13

Continual reprints of magazines featuring Ninomiya Kazunari, the Arashi member that rakes in the biggest magazine sales is Ohno

The media continually announces the new variety shows of the Arashi members. In addition to the programs named after them, “VS Arashi” (Fuji TV) and “Arashi ni Shiyagare” (NTV), they’ve added 3 regular programs to their name: “Aiba Manabu” (TV Asahi), “Nino-san” (NTV) and “Currently, this face is amazing!” (TBS). As for whether the results can silence the critics who say, “Despite their popularity, they can’t obtain ratings,” “They can’t do anything if the five of them aren’t together,” it will be a moment of truth for the members.

Despite Arashi’s instability in TV show ratings, in contrast, their DVD, CD and magazine sales rake in numbers that are befitting of national idols.

According a magazine editor, when Arashi is featured on the cover, the issue sales increase by at least 50%. Even for industry magazines which don’t normally feature Johnny’s, when an Arashi member is featured on the cover, the publisher prints extra copies in response (to the increased demand). A 30% increase in sales is considered good for a Johnny’s or any other celebrity, but only with Arashi does the selling power differ. In particular, magazines which feature Ohno on the cover sell very well.
Translator's note: If you bought Ohno's "nekkid" Anan issue, put yo' hands up! Yeah yeah yeah yeah!

cover

Currently, Ninomiya Kazunari graces the cover of virtually every single women’s magazine or entertainment magazine. Although the features were tied to the movie “Platinum Data” which premieres on the 16th, it seems that related magazines across the board will continue to sell. In the Cinema Culture Magazine “T”, which was released on 9 February, Toho Cinemas and Tsutaya Books (mail order vendors) asked for a reprint even before the numbers came in, that’s how well the magazine sold. The SODA Pia issue which was sold in January couldn’t reprint enough copies in time, so it even underwent a third reprint. This was said to be a first for the publisher.

At the end of 2009, SMAP, who annually graced the cover of the New Year Special Edition of “The Television” magazine, was switched with Arashi. This shift in eras still remains in people’s minds. Not only in terms of magazines, Arashi also has CM contracts with 26 companies, more than the 20 companies that SMAP is endorsing. Although they are no match for SMAP in terms of the number of regular programs which they hold, it seems that the cries of joy over Arashi’s commercial power is unlikely to cease.

Do you watch Japanese variety shows outside of Arashi’s shows?
Yes, I do.
Yes, but only the ones that are subbed.
Not at all.

Hahah Ohno doesn't even need to get naked to make the fangirl drool! I love him with glasses <3 and that Anan was awesome!

I've just read the article via yamakaze607's update. I normally don't think way too much about these kinds of article since they only appear to try to rip apart Arashi's camaraderie. But I notice that while it was different in the past, now Jun and Aiba do really appear in less magazines than Nino, Ohno and Sho when they have something coming up.

But whatever, as long as they ace in what they like to do, I'm happy.

I was reading this... and had to smirk~ leader cathces the readers XD ok, bad pun

but I wondered about the ratings as well... they will have to pull in non-Arashi fans, and a lot of them... in a way, it is like to test out who's worth the most out of thm~ I kinda don't like this idea, but it comes to mind reading this
so - how ill it go? will Aiba tighten his stance thru this family-based approach? Will Sho be seen as an intellectual and/or serious journalist he want it to be? will Neen create something new, using his witt &sharp tongue? and all of them, will they shine without reflecting eachother while doing so...

we will see! and I guess we will support them, right ?! ♥

b/w I have no time to watch stuff outside of Arashi~ it's already too much to catch up on that every time...

[identity profile] fitrin.livejournal.com 2013-03-18 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
I admitted I'm one of those that wondering why Ohno was in all over the magazines, if not all, despite being armed with nothing except the group single release these day xD I was freaking out maybe I missed his solo projects our something xD; Anyway, it's good to know they help the magazines's sale well enough to have reprints. Guess the management think Arashi works better in commercialized-related rather than the show rating hits, I don't know. I would really love to know what behinds it :D

And, the fight to get the AnAn was intense. Phewh.

I really want a copy of oh-chans anan

[identity profile] pandabeh.livejournal.com 2013-03-18 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
I was actually very shocked when I read this and Ohno was the bestseller among the five. Does he have the least number of magazine features? Maybe it's part of the reason why his covers sell a lot...because they are rare and usually showcase a very different side of Ohno that is not normally seen on TV ^^

[identity profile] strawberrynsalt.livejournal.com 2013-03-18 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
I dun usually buy magazines... but *put her hands up while going...Yeah! yeah! yeah!*

Thank you for sharing :)

I bet that any Arashi member on the cover would sell. Hell, I would buy it if they will be one of our mags cover. Maybe even two, one to read and one to put behind glass :D LOL

And I dont have time to watch other shows, ARashi is doing too much for me anyway :D:D (meaning: RL is keeping me busy)

[identity profile] nekobot01.livejournal.com 2013-03-18 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
VERY interesting!! And the poll, too!

I can only afford a few magazines here and there because if I started buying everything... I'd have to build a separate wing on my house!

(I do have that Anan, though... and my biggest regret, as far as magazine purchases go, is not buying Jun's naked Anan when it came out. Now they go for over $100!)

Thanks for sharing this.. i always wanted to read something of J tabloids!! :| just curious..

And amazing that Ohno is the most selling!! Although Jun and Sho are the most popular.. Way to go Ohno.. XD he didn't even had to take nudes..

I hope their programs succeed minna.. but honestly i prefer them together..

I rarely watch other programs.. but returns quickly to Arashi...

I missed out on the nekkid Ohno AnAn ... :/ ... but I too have to be careful with what I buy ... personal bias showing here ... yes I do have rather a lot of mags that feature Ohno, then I go for the Non-No with OhMiya in it ... and sometimes any of the others ... I've bought a few of the Aiba M-Girls, as the nice thing with those apart from the visual feast is that the interviews are translated too. In spite of the Ohno bias ... I seem to have a good spectrum of all the members for one reason or another.

The biggest of which is that I am shallow and cannot resist the pretty.

I am trying to improve my ear for the language and will watch anything that is going that is on (for an unbirthday present several years ago... hubby subscribed to NHK for us) And in spit of being unsubbed, I watch it a lot. The thing with subs is that I feel I miss out on the visual as I'm reading subs as well as watching something, but it does give me an excuse for watching something several times over. I remember I watched all of Maou raw and was quite pleased that I could follow it. But Last Hope loses me a little because ... I guess I'm not up on my medical terminology.

Thank you for sharing this, it is an interesting look at the magazine industry. I recall I did say in some post previously ... any mag looking to boost it's sales regularly put Arashi (either in part or in their entirety) on their front covers. Heheheh!

And definitely I'd oggle a near nekkid Ohno over a Jun one. ^__^ Sorry Jun.

[identity profile] inachan89.livejournal.com 2013-03-18 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was Sho,since it looks like he's the most popular one.Well congrats Leader!!!!

Thanks as always^^
