The End of an Era: Remembering Himitsu no Arashi-chan



In case you haven't heard, Himitsu no Arashi-chan is ending in March 2013, i.e. it's got around 2 months left! I thought it was time for a tribute post of sorts, so I hope this doubles up as a HnA introduction for the newer fans and a reminiscence for the older more experienced ones.

For the fans who were around since 2008, HnA was actually Arashi's first prime time show; it coincided with Arashi's meteoric rise of fame, even as Japanese audiences were on a Hana Yori Dango* high.

T/N: Both HnA and HYD were TBS programs, this explains the tie-ups between the two shows, such as the "Hana Yori Matsujun" Arashi-chan Special.

HnA began as an investigative "social studies" program, where the members uncovered the secrets (himitsu) of different subjects ranging from Disneyland to Instant Noodles. As the producers seemed to run out of interesting social trivia, they then delved into the infamous Ageha Princesses, a corner which was spearheaded by a rather enthusiastic Aiba.

Since then, HnA has undergone several changes, which included...

Aiba and Ohno hunting for hornets…

Jun and Sho doing extremely ordinary things in a super cool manner…

dumping the guys in ice cold water (a JE first, apparently)…

...before finally arriving at the format which exists today.

Ah...it was Ranking Derby that got me into Arashi in the first place. Me and my friends were really depressed and one my friends suggested "watching some Asian guys dress up as horses and get judged for it" Downward spiral (of obsession) ever since. And I've never been happier for it ♥

I figure as long as Arashi is together then they can make a good show.

Ranking Derby is my absolute favorite, because Nino always seems enthusiastic and he barely wins,( also remember when Kim TaeHee mistook Sho for Ohno? LOL ).
Childminder was also very entertaining, the kids are adorable when they are not screaming their head off...
I also liked the Marionette Proposals (or something..)and the acting they have to do for guests for VIP.
I will miss those definitely.

I'll definitely miss Himitsu, especially now that they won't be able to work with Othello (T ︵ T). I have a lot of favorites from this show. Ranking Derby! Hanadan SP! T-shirt record breaking Challenge! M5! Sho's double parka and Ohno's pineapple slider! (...which are copyrighted by both these dorks) Also the Childminder segment was my favorite! it was both awkward and adorable to watch, especially my darling Nino :3 those kids really gave them a hard time lol.

Oh and last but definitely not the least:

Also contrary to popular belief (or maybe not), I personally feel that the new format segments like Share House were interesting to watch since they're at a time where they need to grow out of their Mago Mago/G no Arashi-ish days and be taken more seriously both as tv personalities and as mature people. it was nice to see them talk about their lives outside Arashi (like that one time where Sho talked about his 'fake date' at a butai with Fukishii Kazue lol). Although I don't mind watching a few airhead episodes every now and then! Hopefully they can get all 5 of them for a new show that gives them as much freedom to do interesting things both inside and outside the typical TV studio setup like Himitsu.

Thank you for posting this! Himitsu was what baited me back to the fandom after 6 years (began listening to Arashi at around '06, if my memory serves me right). This was the first Arashi show that I watched. Definitely glad to be back. I love this fandom :)

The old HnA was the reason why I became an Arashi fan in the first place. And the childminder episode is the turning point in which Sho-chan became my ichiban. My absolute favorite moments were:
1. Haunted House
2. Childminder
3. The older episodes in which they brought the experts.
4. Bakkakoi challenge
5. The 2nd Mannequin 5 SP
6. Arashi vs Kanjani 8 Mannequin 5
7. Doubt Actor (how can there be so little about this epic segment?)

I have so many others but these are the major ones for me. I'm gonna miss HnA.

this makes me so incredibly sad!! :'( HnA was brilliant, it never failed to make me laugh and there was so much variety! A true variety show! I'll miss it a lot. My favourite episodes were probably childminder Arashi, and I always enjoyed VIP room when the guys had to act out confession scenes and the like >w< I feel heartbroken at this news, but I'm happy for the hours we were able to share together <3

Aw, this post made me a bit sad (I'm loving all the caps and gifs though). HnA isn't what it used to be, but I'm still sad to see it go, even if it wasn't exactly unexpected.

Among other things, I'm going to miss:
-Childminder
-Haunted House
-Ranking Derby
-The first format with the experts and their secrets
-Many entertaining VIP Room guests
-Mannequin 5, especially the SPs
-Random stuff like Ohno's T-shirt challenge, the beatbox projects and competing against kids at pingpong and, in Sho's case, math

Like many others, I wish they'd do one last Mannequin 5 SP. (I ended up not voting for the last one, so I'd like another chance. :P) Or at least something to go out with a bang.

I'm definitely going to miss HnA :( I had lots of great laughs from this show! I'll miss the Mannequin 5 Specials D': Nino's spying/sabotage & Ohno eating curry ♥. Just when Matsujun finally gets 1st place, the show ends. I hope they have one last M5 SP before HnA ends~ I wish I could have seen other HnA segments, but many of the older communities that subbed them are dead and have dead links ;__; Nonetheless, I'll dearly miss this show!

Thank you for storytelling us about HnA. My favorites were VIP episodes of Hasegawa Jun and Naka Riisa. HnA would always wipe out the negative vibes in me and make my day great. I would smile nonstop throughout an episode!

Man. I can't believe it's ending soon. So many funny moments. Some of my favorites are: J's Hana Yori Dango (as funny as the Hardgay parody), Ranking derby, and when Perfume was on. I've recently watched the SP where all 5 are together. They didn't have a guest, but all 5 reminiscenced by watching past HNA NGs. What the members did in between each of the dvds and at the end of show were hilarious moments. I hope that they do more shows together in the future.

Sad to say goodbye to Arashi-chan, the show ended last night. Looking back their segments for the past 5 years was enjoyable to watch but it's embarassing to say when 5x10 played then the ending song Still, i cant control the tears that came out in my eyes. I know we can still see them together in the other shows but the feeling of a show which we love will end was a different feeling.

Im still a year in this fandom, and Ive seen the old format of the show recently, and honestly I loved their past segments compared share house (just my opinion). My most fave segments was Dame Arashi, Child Minder, Doubt Action, Ranking Derby and Mannequin 5. I had fun watching the Haunted House episode, through out the show I never stopped laughing of our boys. Riida never get scared that easily, Jun talks much to hide he's scared, Never expect Nino was the one who paid for the souvenir for Sho (for he lose that time), expectedly Aiba lose also against Sho (we all know Sho was scaredy-cat), I just really had fun.

My most favorite moment and I can't forget episode was the Chiba date of Sakuraba. After watching that Im hoping the other members will do it too (but it didn't happen).

I'll surely missed this show but everything comes to an end. For 5 yrs they gave us smiles every Thursday night :-)

What can I say only I LOVE this program!!:)I love Haunted House, vip room and mannequin five!! it's very sad that HnA has ended now...
Although I won't say that I am a loyal audience of every single episodes, I do enjoy them epic ones..
To be honest, I enjoyed it more when there are the five of them together, and when it gets into VIP Limousine, I started to watch the show less and less...
I have like Arashi since their "Happiness" single. I suddenly heard and watched the song on some channel in the TV and that's the start of it. I then found myself watching Ryusei no Kizuna, and then I came into the fandom even deeper. I have had Nino as my bias since then.
I have never watched HYD, and never got baited by Domyouji XD
Then in a couple of years, I found myself on a hiatus of the fandom because reality arises.

Though I have been an Off and On fan, I always find myself coming back to Arashi. They are my happiness, they give me target in life. They are my guilty pleasure, and watching their shows, including HnA and especially Shukudai with Ohmiya XD is a bliss. They are those dorks that make you smile like an idiot.

Anyway sorry for my rant.

I really like:
-Ranking Derby!! To be honest, I am more to curious than like! The format was done in my hiatus time! I really need to find the videos :'( It's so hard to find them these days...

- VIP Room. Some of them are marvelous ! and their Disney collaboration!

-The Aiba-Sho Chiba Adventure yesssss

- Haunted House! They even hae 2 episodes of that one!!! XD

- Mannequin SP!

It's sad that it has all ended up.... It really depressed me....
Thank you Arashi and HnA staffs.... I am happy that they meet such entertaining staffs XD

Now I need to find out where I can download the episodes ! XD

Hmm, I love the HYD episode in HnA, it was really hilarious and cute! Ooshima-san was very lucky~

I also love the childminder segment, the Jun & Sho part (I forgot what it's called but it has "cool" word right?) and the arashi beatbox!

I like the past ones because it make me learn about interesting things.

VIP limousine was also awesome, I enjoyed several guesting by various people. I like the Mickey Mouse SP! Ooh and the Haunted House! I will never forget that!
