[2010.10.10] Otonoha Vol 66: Reunions
More vintage Otonoha! Sho recalls his first visit to Matsumoto castle when he was in Matsumoto city filming Kamisama no Karute.

Hello.
It’s me.
It’s Icchan from the Kurihara household.
Man, my life at Nagano has gone on for quite a while.
You could say that Matsumoto is my second hometown now.
(Nope, that’s definitely an overstatement.)
Whenever I have time off, I would explore Matsumoto city.
I’d go to the hot springs…
Eat some soba…
Eat some soba.
That’s right.
I’m pretty much eating soba ALL the time.
How many meals of soba have I had…
Nay, there were even times when I would eat soba for days on end.
You could say that my blood has rutin flowing in it.
(Nope, that’s definitely an overstatement.)
One such day.
I had some time off, so I went to Matsumoto castle.
As you would expect from a tourist attraction.
Matsumoto castle was teeming with tourists.
However.
Actually, for me…
This is my second time to Matsumoto castle.
That’s right.
A few years ago.
It was a location filming with Ninomiya-kun.
As a penalty game for a program, I had to clean the walls of Matsumoto castle.*
T/N: The program Sho referenced was Mago Mago Arashi #076 which aired on 2006.10.21.
With these memories weighing on my heart, I stepped into the compound.
As I walked inside…
There it is~!!!
That’s it!!
Over here!!
Everyone!!
This is the place!! Over here!!
This wall! I cleaned it!! Have a look!!
Eh!?
Where are the bananas…?
Hold on a second! That’s not the point!
I’m telling you, please take a look!!
…well, I obviously couldn’t bring myself to say that.
Somehow…
I just decided to encounter a touching reunion on my own.
So I ended up taking photos (of the castle).
This was!
The castle wall!
That I cleaned!
How normal.
(-_-)
Yes.
Very normal.
I’m sorry for kicking up such a fuss.
That’s how it went.
I like to use whatever little free time that I have in a meaningful way.
Well, then.
I’ll be having some soba.

Sakurai Sho
Translator’s note:
For the uninitiated, Sho came in last in one of Mago Mago Arashi’s Castle Town races and as a penalty, he was made to clean the castle walls of Matsumoto castle. Nino went with him to serve as a witness (i.e. not do anything but torment him with fake crocodiles). The stone walls were littered with pigeon feces and Sho had to painstakingly scrub them off whilst standing in the castle moat in 35 degree weather. At points, he was climbed to a height of 7m to clean the feces off the upper walls.
Some statistics from the show:
Time spent cleaning the walls: 8.5 hours
Castle tower floor area cleaned: 150 square meters
Response to a lost child: Good!

Sho has such a way to tell stories, that even small anecdotes are funny.
I hope you'll continue to translate more of them, they're precious!
