Jun's creative director side emerges here as he compiles his own list of songs and gives it a theme. Even then, things didn't go as smoothly as he wanted...



A first in Arashi’s history!? This is a new proposal where we make an original compilation of Arashi songs. The members, of course, determine the theme and the song selection. In this first round, please enjoy the whole body of work which Matsujun presents.

Bonus track: Energy Song

Firstly, I wanted to weave together a selection of old and new songs. Then I deliberated over the theme… In the end, I thought it would be good to have a compilation of songs which cheered me up when I listened to it. I briefly drew up a list of 30 songs, and then decided on the order. That being said… I’m still undecided over the list of songs. (laughs) Linkage wise, the songs in the middle, such as “Gift”, “Sora Takaku”, “season”, Still…”, are kinda heavy. So, I was thinking, perhaps it’d be better to take one song off the list. It’s just that I have a strong emotional attachment to these songs, or rather, I’m conflicted. (laughs) I want to insert “Energy Song” since it’s a bonus track… Which means that there are now 21 songs. I’m really undecided! The songs here were released at different points in time, but whenever I listen to them, I’m moved. 

When I conceptualize the set lists to our concerts, I basically listen to all the songs again. I listen to them each time we have a concert. And each time, as I listen to the lyrics, the things which come to my mind are different. Hence, to name the album correctly, it’s “The Songs Which Gave Me Goosebumps.” The image which comes to mind when I listen to these songs is that I got the chills. But I think that’s kinda hard to convey. I thought of various themes, such as “Songs which can give you courage”, or “When you listen to this, you’ll feel bolder Album”… But since these are our songs, it was just strange. (laughs) As a compromise, I’ve named it “The songs which gave me courage”!

Translator's thoughts: I really enjoyed reading about Jun's creative process! I can sense the amount of thought he's put into even a seemingly simple task like this, and he's pretty generous with his song offerings!
