I don't know how much of this report I can type up, but enjoy the snippets of conversation here! This report is meant to complement Yarukizero’s report on Waku Waku Gakkou in Osaka on 6th June.

- Opening VTR (refer to yarukizero’s report)
The screen transitions to a shot of the members backstage huddled around a camera.
J: Here we are again this year!
N: Let’s do this, shall we?
J: Shall we?
J: Waku Waku—
Everyone: Gakkou~!!
S: Well, Ninomiya Sensei, how many times have we done this?
N: This would be our 5th year, wouldn’t it?
A: That would mean that the first graders would have become fifth graders by now!
S: That’s right.
N: Wow.
S: Feeling lively tonight?
O: I sure am!
N: We’re almost there! (at the Dome’s stage)
J: Let’s go!
The members enter Tokyo Dome to the roar of the fans.
S: It’s packed today!
N: We ask for your favor today!
J: We have quite the crowd today!
S: I’m so excited!
J: Welcome to Waku Waku Gakkou!
N: Let’s study together today!
[Greetings all around]
J: Guys, are you excited?
Arashi: Yeah~
J: Outfield, are you excited?
Outfield audience members: (after a pause) Yeah~
J: Outfield, are you excited?
Outfield audience members: (after a pause) Yeah~
A: They’re really excited!
S: We’re grateful for that.
[Cue the sounds of birds chirping]
A: Hang on, is that a warbler I hear?
N: It’s already June, aren’t we turning the clock back to spring!?
[Enter Sho’s high pitched cackle]
J: In this year’s Waku Waku Gakkou, we’ll have everyone experience the four seasons and Japan’s various customs and cultures.
A: Today, we have audience members joining us from Singapore and Shanghai!
N: We’ll be learning together with the overseas students today, we ask for your favor!
O: When you hear the word “Spring”, what comes to mind? (without skipping a beat) That’s right, entrance ceremonies!
N: I don’t think anyone said anything.
O: They didn’t? Anyway, it’s entrance ceremonies! We’ll be holding one right now!
[Crowd cheers enthusiastically.]
S: Wow, isn’t this the most enthusiastic reaction we’ve had to an entrance ceremony so far?
O: I guess everyone must love entrance ceremonies!
N: I don’t think so!
S: We’ll have all of you stand and bow in a minute, but there are some members which we’d like to introduce today.
A: Who would they be?
S: The 9 members who will be entering Waku Waku Gakkou with us – HEY SAY JUMP!!!
O: Come dashing to the classroom as we call your name!
S: So all 9 members have gathered. Once again, are you all ready? Please rise!
[Tokyo Dome audience members rise, but the Singapore theater goers stayed in their seats. There were no cameras at the live screening today, so we figured it didn’t matter since the boys couldn’t see us. #lazy]
O: I declare Arashi’s Waku Waku Gakkou open!
S: Everyone, attention! Bow!
N: We ask for your favor!
S: Please take your seats!
Audio – 7 min 19 s
O: Freshmen, congratulations!
[No response from the audience. Ohno tries again and the audience claps politely.]
O: Our customary Waku Waku Gakkou has entered its 5th year!
J: As you know, our school motto is…
S: [literally jumps in front of Jun] Notice the little things in life! [When Sho pulls away, we see Jun’s nonplussed expression.]
J: Notice the little things in life.
Jun explains the concept behind WWG.
N: How are you feeling, Yabu-kun?
Yabu: I’m really excited!
N: Yamada-kun!
Yamada: Yes!
N: A good afternoon to you.
Yamada: Good afternoon to you too.
(The audience giggles a little at this interaction.)
Yamada: I hope to learn together with the teachers from Arashi. Please favor me.
J: Together with the students from Hey Say Jump and everyone gathered here today, we hope that you’ll benefit greatly and learn from today’s Waku Waku Gakkou!
[Silence, followed by laughter mixed with tentative applause.]
J: Is there a time lag here at the Tokyo Dome as well? (Besides the lag in live transmission to Singapore and Shanghai.)
S: No, no!
N: I don’t think so. They were just waiting.
S: That brings an end to our entrance ceremony.
O: Everyone, quieten down please.
O: Everyone, quieten down please.
[The audience, which was originally silent, suddenly bursts in laughter.]
J: Everyone was being considerate!
N: You don’t seem to be on the same wavelength today!
J: You were afraid of the silent pause, right?
O: I’m sorry, quieten down please. Just keep quiet!!
[Crowd erupts in laughter.]
O: We want to experience the transition between the seasons through sound, so everyone, please close your eyes. You ready? Now lend me your ears. Just imagine, it’s the end of spring…
A: What’s that?
N: Is that a frog?
Audio – 10 min 45 s
O: Everyone, you may open your eyes now. It’s early summer! And your teacher in-charge is…!
[Screen shows a picture of Nino]
N: Everyone, take a seat! You guys are a little slow today.
Yabu: Sorry! (Everyone scrambles to their seats.)
N: Aiba-kun! Yamada-kun!
A&Y: Yes!
N: You guys must be busy during summer break with your rice planting and all, right? Since your family owns rice paddies.
A: Nope, my family owns a Chinese restaurant.
N: Stop it! Get on with the script!
A: Got it.
N: You’re busy during rice planting season, right?
A&Y: Yeah.
(Nino explains the history of rice planting.)
Audio – 12 min 10 s
N: Take a look over there.
[Camera pans over to a makeshift rice paddy field constructed in the middle of Tokyo Dome.]
N: We’ll have you experience what rice planting is, and rice planting break—Aiba-kun, please refrain from drinking water.
[Screen switches to Aiba who’s in the middle of taking a sip from his water bottle.]
N: You have your rice planting to do, so please get ready.
[A VTR shows the painstaking effort taken to grow and harvest rice. Nino serves as narrator. Niigata’s local mascot, Maimai Jii-chan, a white and fluffy grandfatherly rice grain serves as Nino’s counterpart. He also makes an appearance in Tokyo Dome.]
N: Let’s give a warm welcome to Maimai Jii-chan!
MMJ: Thank you for having mai!
T/N: It’s hard to translate but basically Maimai Jii-chan punctuates his sentences like “mai”, very much like Funassyi.
T/N: It’s hard to translate but basically Maimai Jii-chan punctuates his sentences like “mai”, very much like Funassyi.
J: Huh? Was that really Maimai Jii-chan speaking?
N: It sure was!
J: But that was…
N: Hmm?
J: Just a minute… (in his best Maimai Jii-chan impression) I can do this too mai~ (Frankly, it just sounds like Jun’s regular Bobby Olugun impression but let’s not go there.)
N: Don’t “I can do this mai” me! It’s the real Maimai Jii-chan! He came all the way from Niigata!
S: Is this Maimai Jii-chan’s first trip to the Tokyo Dome?
N: (mimicking Maimai Jii-chan’s voice) Probably mai~
S: Ninomiya-san, could you please go closer to Maimai Jii-chan?
(Nino walks over to MMJ and does his MMJ impression again.)
[A VTR shows how rice ought to be planted.]
[Yamada and Aiba are now in rice planting gear and standing by the paddy field. They’ll be having a rice planting contest to see who can plant more rice within a set period.]
N: Let’s see who’s better and faster! Would it be the young lad or established veteran? We wish you all the best. Be nice to each other, okay?
A: (turns to Yamada and speaks in his senpai voice) This paddy field is dangerous. Do NOT push me, you got it? No one wants to see this!
J: That’s the variety guy for you!
A: Seriously!
Yamada: Got it!
N: That’s right. We’re still in our first hour.
[Aiba continues to caution Yamada as they move towards the starting line.]
N: Did you two get your rice already?
A: Oops, we didn’t.
Yamada: Over here!
[Yamada and Aiba scurry over to the side where they’re handed the rice to plant.]
J: What were you doing in there!?
Yamada: He (Aiba) suddenly went into the paddy field…
[Aiba and Yamada listen to instructions on the side. Nino, who has clearly lost patience at this point, yells for the competition to begin and we see Yamada and Aiba scramble to their starting positions.]
[Aiba and Yamada diligently plant their rice and Aiba starts splashing Yamada, who isn’t cowed and splashes back.]
A: HEY! I’M YOUR SENIOR!
[The two mock wrestle a little but to our disappointment, no one falls into the water. They get back to planting soon after.]
Audio – 21 min 40 s
N: You have 10 seconds left! (begins the countdown) Time’s up!
[The audience looks upon the sorry state of both candidates’ rice fields.]
Yamada: This is terrible.
N: I’d like the two of you to take a look at the rice you’ve planted. (A poignant pause.)
N: They look like weeds.
A: I gave it my all, but halfway through, Yamada interrupted me.
N: So whose fault was it?
Yamada: It’s Aiba-kun’s fault.
[Aiba threatens a water fight.]
N: Uncle!
A: Alright, let’s do it amicably, okay?
