transitions101Consider my Nino birthday post! It counts because it's still June, right?
The members of Arashi talk about their impressions of Nino in 2004.
I feel that Nino is… someone who isn’t pretentious. He must be really flexible. Somehow, he doesn’t seem too bothered by the details. For example, if he wants to game, he goes ahead and does it, right? If he wants to create some excitement, he just jumps right in. In that sense, he’s flexible, or free, as I’d put it. He’s also someone who fits into a group readily.
He’s someone who really likes being by himself, but I think he likes being with others even more. But this group of “others” is seriously restricted; if it weren’t people that he already acknowledged, they wouldn’t be able to enter that circle. Whilst he can readily fit into a group of people, there’s this unexpected side to him too.
For some reason, Nino’s drama filming seems to overlap with our concerts quite frequently, and he often misses rehearsals. During those times, he feels like he’s holding the others back, and apparently he feels the pressure to perform and pushes himself really hard, even though he’s so busy. He texts the members about it. Although he doesn’t show it in front of us, I think he really wants to do his job well. In his mind, I’m sure that Arashi is a place where he feels good. If that weren’t so, I don’t think someone like him would continue activities as a group. I think he’s having fun.

And then there’s Nino. He’s soooo relaxed! He does what he wants and has a ton of fun while doing it. You can really feel that vibe from him. Actually, Nino and I were filming separate shows yesterday, but we happened to be in the same studio. And there Nino was, chilling out as usual. (laughs) It’s interesting to watch.
Previously, we were in a similar situation as yesterday’s, but somehow it felt different from the Nino who usually hung out with us. However, yesterday’s Nino was the usual Nino. (laughs) Recently, he’s been really interesting. I think you can feel it from last year’s Arashi concert DVD footage, when he’s in high spirits, he really lets loose. Well, his peak energy levels aren’t that high, but there’s a part of him that’s cool and collected; he’s good at teasing others, and he must be good at interacting with people.
You see, Nino… He hasn’t changed in the way he always sticks to me immediately. (laughs) It has been like this since we first met. As I was sitting down, he came and sat beside me and stared at me. I thought to myself, “I don’t think we’ve spoken!?” He felt like a dog back then. (laughs) How should I put this; he’s really friendly with people, and when someone that he likes is close by, he immediately closes in on them and wants to talk to them, I think. Maybe I’ve been influenced by that, I also tend to start a conversation with people that I want to talk to. In addition, at first glance, Nino might seem like he’s not thinking about anything, but he’s really sharp. I mean, he’s really skilful. Once something goes into his left ear, it doesn’t go out of his right ear, but is transmitted into his brain matter. For example, he can precisely remember something I said a few hours ago. On the other hand, it would slip my mind to the extent that I would go, “Eh? Did I say that?” (laughs) And he should have been gaming when he heard what I said…. His memory is amazing.
It’s the same when he’s acting. Even though he was continuously gaming during the breaks, he delivers all his lines during the actual take. It shocked me, I thought, “When did he memorize this!?” But that’s just evidence of how smart he is. He’s well informed and he knows a lot of words. And he’s quite a positive thinker as well.I think I’ve also been influenced by Nino in that aspect. Well, there’s so many areas of the members that I respect, so I think I’ve been influenced by all of them.

And Nino. We’ve known each other for a long time, and we’ve had many interactions from a long time ago. I often used to stay over at Nino’s house. His personality is… he’s on a roll, I would say? He’s the type who could become friends with anybody… Alright, he’s not someone on a roll, he’s just a sociable person. I stand corrected. (laughs) That’s right, he’s been a sociable person since a long time ago. He’s also a quirky person.
This happened a long time ago, but I once went with Nino to a public bath, and he rubbed soap all over his body so he could slide over the tiles. You wouldn’t normally do something like that. No one else happened to be around, so we swam in the bath. That was a truly regular public path with Mount Fuji painted on its walls, but he enjoyed it to the fullest. I think it’s good that he’s able to enjoy himself wherever he is. Another piece of info that I have on Nino is, up till a short while ago, he had his mother as his phone’s wallpaper. (laughs) He’s strange like that, really. He’s an interesting person like Ohno-kun, but in a different sense. He also hates losing.
